For a while now, I have been struggling with finding a project to follow up the completion of the Remnants project.
A few months ago I began shooting weeds and wastelands. It wasn't planned and it was never meant to be a project but it has now grown. People are coming to me and saying 'Have you seen such and such a thing?' or 'Have you seen the trees growing out of this or that chimney?' The problem is that this is usually followed by my curiosity meaning I go to the location and end up shooting it.
So these images have become an essay in their own right and has the working title of 'Taking Back'. It is basically exploring how nature has a habit of reclaiming what once rightfully belonged to it. I'm currently not sure how far this will go but at the moment it's holding my interest.
The second project has now officially set itself to be my big main essay as a follow up to Remnants. Again, it is in the very early stages but I think it has the capacity to form quite an interesting set.
Watching Sport is about people that watch sport. However, its not about professional sport. Its about the amateurs. Its about those people that walk through their local park and stop for five minutes to watch a game of Sunday league football or to watch their local running team train on a track. As it being early days the images haven't quite found their way yet. There isn't a definitive look about them as of yet. I think that it will probably find its own way during the course of the project. Next job; hitting the books and the net for research!
Images from both projects will be uploaded to my flickr account over the next few days. Be sure to stop by and have a look.
You should take a swing through the outskirts of Manchester, I drove past a buliding between the city centre and Aston the other week that was almost completly over taken by buddleia and immediately thought that you would love it!
